Can you be disqualified at MEPS for having an allergy to nickel?

I have a milk allergy, can I join the Army still?

  • I have a milk allergy. I have it documented by my doctor. I am not sure what it is that I have, but it is not lactose intolerance. I do NOT nor will I ever have anaphylactic shock from it. This fact is also documented by my doctor. I have eaten Army regulation MREs before, some of them have milk while others are completely void of it. So, can I still join the Army or am I disqualified because of this? To be more specific, I wish to join the Army Chaplain Corps. They have to go through MEPS still, but maybe that changes things, I do not know.

  • Answer:

A lot depends on how you react to your allergies. Since you don't go into anaphylactic shock you have a chance. What the Army will do is determine the risk you impose and if it is you break out or get cramps then you could be OK. They will take it on a case by case basis. Make sure you are up front when signing up and it is documented and written on your papers. I hope this helps and wish you all the best in serving. Good luck
