Could I be allergic to milk?

Can my daughter be allergic to milk after drinking milk based formula?

  • My daughter has always been on milk based formula, ate yogurt with no problem, and has had whole milk mixed with formula in her bottles. I just gave her a bottle of straight whole milk, and she drank it fine, but right after that she has small little red bumps on her that look like an allergic reaction type of rash? If it is that, I know it's the milk because I haven't given her any new foods. But how could she be allergic to milk, if for the 1st year of her life she had milk based formula? Any thoughts on this?

  • Answer:

It is possible for allergies to develop over time--especially dairy. I was just diagnosed last month and I'm 16. The spontaneous reaction could be caused by the amount of certain enzymes in the whole milk, as opposed to the other substances only being milk-based.

Hm...That's a real head scratcher. Maybe she's allergic to straight up milk? You should ask her pediatrician.
