How can I stop my allergies in the spring?

Dealing with Allergies; Meds Stopped Working This Summer?

• I live in Northern Ohio, and my allergies make my life a nightmare. For the past couple of years (I want to say since almost third grade which was 2001-2002), I've taken allegra/Fexofenadine, which was perfect for me. I took one pill in the morning, and my allergies didn't act up at all. They act up during the spring and summer season, usually around April or May, so I don't take meds during the Winter/Fall. During the summer of 2009, my allergies didn't act up at all for the entire summer, so I didn't take any of my meds. The next summer 2010, my allergies were bad, so one doctor visit got me the prescription, and as previously mentioned, allegra took care of everything. This summer 2011, my meds aren't working at all. My allergies continue to act up and it's really hard. I just graduated high school, so there are many outdoor grad parties, and even after taking two pills, I still feel miserable with watering eyes, scratchy throat, and stuffy nose. It's driving me crazy. My mom said this is the worst allergy season though, but my meds aren't helping at all. So I am not sure what I should do. Why would my meds stop being a miracle? Do I need to switch meds; have I become immune? Or should I get a new batch of allegra since (1) I don't take them during the winter, maybe they went bad, and (2) allegra is now over-the-counter, so no doctor visit is needed.

  You are defiantly immune to the medication. I've gotten severe sinus infections, one after another, for 9 years. It got to the point that the doctors just told me to deal with it because the antibiotics weren't working. They didn't want to give me them anymore period, they were scared that if I got really sick and ended up in the hospital, nothing would be able to get me better because i was so immune to them. That's just a random pointless story, but yes, you are immune to them. Have you tried Zyrtec? I think it works really well.
