What would cause an annual outbreak of hives?

Can you cause yourself to get hives?

• My boyfriends son, who we have custody of, suddenly came down with hives a few days ago. My bf took him to the doctor and he got a prescription and the dr told him not to give it to him if there were no hives present. So, the next morning....they were gone so no meds. His son was very upset about this, he deeply enjoyed the attention from the hives and having to take the meds. Let me give u a little bit of a background here, his son was just diagnosed with Oppositional Defiance Disorder a few days ago also, he is in constant trouble at school and at home for his behavioral problems that are too much to list. So he is grounded to his room until he can start behaving at school at least. He comes home from school and is fine and has no hives, then he is upset because he can't take medicine for it because he doesn't have any. So after homework he goes up to his room and is back down within a hour with hives. There is nothing in his room, his diet hasn't changes and he doesn't take any prescriptions. Nothing is different. So my question is, is there something that he could be doing up in his room that could be causing him to magically break out in hives??? Thank you

  I doubt it! What does Oppositional Defiance Disorder have to do with causing himself hives anyways? Why are you so quick to not believe him? Maybe there is something in his room that he is allergic to. That makes more sense than what you are suggesting!
