Will mild allergic reaction symptoms to a drug ( like an anti-biotic) go away if exposure of drug stops?
-
Recently had wisdom teeth out - took pennicillin- had reaction 4th day of taking it - stopped pennicillin a couple days ago ( on my own when I realized what may of caused this allergic reaction -since it took 3-4 days for their to be a reaction I wasn't sure if it was the pennicillin but then decided that it was- my allergy symptom of dizziness has went away since I stopped a couple days ago. But now, basically, my uvula swelled up last night - which is an uncommon reaction to pennicillin, but I found a few others on the web who posted- experiencing a similiar thing. Basically my question is, since I am no longer exposing myself to pennicillin, my body should not be irritated by it anymore after a couple days?? Therefore, all allergic reaction should go away. Basically, is an allergy to a drug ( mild allergies considering) similiar to an allergy with dog hair in that if somene who is allergic to dog hair avoids dogs, their allergy symptoms will go away? the same should be true for minor reactions to drugs ( Pennicillin)? No?? Again one of my symptoms ( slight dizzy/haziness) has gone away since being off, but would the swollen uvula go down from natural remedies like gargling salt water, tea with honey, garlic cloves etc)?? Or would a special, prescribed thing need to be given to get rid of a swollen uvula from an allergy ( which I am NO longer exposed to - I believe these are just some after effects that should dissipate) My doctor mentioned trying out zyrtec - but I read many many bad reviews about it, so prob not a good idea when there are other options. So another allergy medicine, like Benadryl might also help, no? The doc. didn't really think it was pennicillin causing reaction b/c I have an uncommon reaction, but that was just from a quick observation - even doctors are not always right. I can tell b/c my symptom of feeling slightly hazy/dizzy started within 20 mins of taking pennicillin on the 3 or 4th day. Keep in mind, any minor normal allergies I get at this time is usually nothing more than a runny/stuffy nose- I am not prone to getting many allergies - except from pollen - another reason I think this is caused by pennicillin.
