How soon do allergy symptoms show?

Just got an allergy skin test yesterday, allergy specialists please read this!?

  • I I'm just wondering if the severity of the skin test directly correlates to the severity of the allergy symptoms. I got the skin test yesterday, and three areas are still visible and swollen. The three in question were all types of trees. My seasonal allergy symptoms usually consist of severely itchy eyes and a little stuffiness, sneezing, etc. My question is: if the results of the allergy test show that these triggers severely affect me, do you think I have to worry about life-threatening reactions? Could my usual symptoms suddenly change at any point, or is this not typical? I was very concerned when I saw the size of the reaction on the skin test. (As a guide, the swollen area of the largest one is over an inch in diameter, while my reaction to a normal trigger, such as cats (rated a 3), was less than one cm)

  • Answer:

If it were life threatening, your doctor would have told you and you would have been prescribed an EPI pen to walk around with to inject yourself with before your throat would swell shut. However, I do believe the bigger the reaction, the worse the allergy is. There are several websites that will tell you what is in the air in your zipcode. I like using Claritin.com to find out what's out and about in the air, then I know what I'm "probably" reacting to. And if you know you're allergic to tree pollen, the days that tree pollen is heavy don't go outside unless you have to!
