What diet has worked best for you?

What diet would you recommend and what worked best for you?

  • I'm 5ft 2in. and weigh 192 lbs. The doctor said I am obese. After being diagnosed with sleep apnea, the doctor recommended I lose about 60 pounds. So now, I'm looking for diets that really work. I checked out nutrisystem, but it's too expensive for my budget. The "alli" diet just doesn't sound good (side effects include orange watery stools). And weight watchers seems too complicated (measuring and the points system). I'm looking for something simple because I have a 10 month old. My question is: what diets would you recommend and which worked best for you? Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much!

Even though you're not diabetic, I would recommend a Diabetic Diet. This will allow you to control your sugar intake, and portion sizes. They require you to eat five small meals a day with a light snack in between. I had to go on one when I had gestational diabetes. It turned into type 2 diabetes after my baby was born because of my weight issue. I was 100 pounds more than you at that time, and I'm the same height as you as well. I ended up with other problems that lead me to gastric bypass. Now, I'm 145 lbs. :-) A lot lighter on my feet I say! LOL Diet pills (if you are thinking of these), will destroy your metabolism completely, leaving you to gain more weight. I learned this with my bariatric surgeon. My bariatric surgeon also said that to "WAIT" one hour after your meal before you drink anything!!! This will allow your tummy to settle and feel full for a longer period. Trust me, this will contribute to you losing weight! It doesn't seem so, but it works! I thought he was nuts when he told me and my group this. He wasn't wrong. LOL He also said use a smaller fork, and a smaller plate when eating. This will also help you to put less food on your plate and take smaller bites. After you take a bite, put your fork down and chew until there's almost nothing in your mouth. About 30-50 times. Eat slowly to allow your body tell your brain that you're full. A lot of people make the mistake of eating fast, and taking big bites without chewing completely, leaving you to feel hungry, because your body hasn't had time to settle and tell your brain that you're full. Also, stop eating when you're satisfied, not full. It's a lot to remember I know. But it works. I wish I knew this before I made the decision to have the surgery so that I could have tried it. Here is a link to help you with diabetic diets and what to eat etc. http://www.dinewise.com/diabetic-friendly.html Hope this helps you! :-) PS: Don't forget to exercise too! Just 20-30 min of fast/moderate walking will also help you to lose weight.

You don't need to spend money on a diet. You need to give up pop, junk food, snacks, and just watch what you eat. You need to do 20 minutes of cardio (running, walking, jumping jacks) a day. You need to also do some muscle work outs. Don't waste money when it's this simple.

Actually, you don't have to diet per se if you want to lose weight, the only diet that clearly delivered for me is wu-yi tea, it can be checked out in the resource box below, they have a limited number of free trials remaining, it was highlighted in Fox News and USA Today. I lost twenty pounds, it clearly does produce results!

Hi there, I tried south beach because I was stuck, I had hit a plateau for months and nothing I tried on my own worked. I bought the book and followed it to the letter. The first week I lost 2.5 pounds. Doesnt sound like much but for someone who eats right, workouts hard and wasnt loosing a pound for months this was big news to me. I love it. The first two weeks were tough but now its smooth sailing. Im down 6.4 pounds. Im not down more because of the holidays but this week im back on track and sure to see the scale drop again. Good luck to you.

Yes, Dieting can be made simple its just that companies add marketing and selling techniques for sales. I would stick to basic clean proteins such as chicken, white fish, tuna ect... As for carbs I would stick with 1/2 a cup of oats in the am. then stick with some brownrice for lunch, say 1/2 a cup. After lunch I would go for green veggies or non starchy carbs...

HI, Very basic: It's about knowing what to eat, how much and when to eat. *Eat 5 small meals a day. That's Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner and in between a snack. This speeds up the metabolism, gives you energy and helps you burn fat. *Increase your fiber intake from high fiber cereals, oatmeal, vegetables etc...Fiber helps you feel full, and stabilizes your sugar levels. *Avoid eating excess carbohydrates (energy) when you are less active such as later in the day. At the time eat proteins (chicken, fish, etc..) with a salad or vegetables. *Add good fats to your eating from Olive oil, flax oil, peanut, almonds etc. These type of fat give you energy and help your body burn fat. *Drink plenty of water. *Walk or Exercise. Hope this helps!

I understand what you are going through as I have dealt with sleep apnea all my life. I was obese too and have lost over 60 pounds so far. I have tried so many diets and non of them worked for me because I had to change my thinking. They would work for a while but then I'd get tired of them. What finally is working for me is changing the way I think. See the link in the source box. Check it out and let me know what you think because it is really working for me. I have a few more pounds to go and will finally reach a goal for the first time. I exercise when I want to and only because I like to. Not because I have to.
