Would I still need braces after tooth implant?

I need surgery, braces w/ a spring, a tooth pulled and a spacer covering 3 teeth? =(?

  • I just visited the orthadontist thinking I would only need a little appliance and turns out we need a bunch of steps... STEP 1: Get tooth pulled STEP 2: Insert spacer covering 3 teeth STEP 3: Drive to Edmonton to get surgery that removes 3 wisdom teeth from inside my gums. STEP 4: Braces Why does all this have to happen to me? Will I get put to sleep in the surgery? I am only a 12 year old girl and all this has to happen within 2 years. What are some tips I will need to know for this experience? Has anybody else experienced this? What colors for braces should I get?

hmmm yh it duz suck ........ i had 4 teeth pulled out which isnt the best feeling in the world HAHA .... right well they firstly inject you in the gums ( which duznt hurt one bit .... sounds crazy but it duznt ) and then they let u numb for a bit and lay u down and he uses some tools to simply pull them out .... its feels like its crunching but it isnt really ... though it feels well weird ....... then he lets you rinse your mouth out and thats it there isnt any after pain just an ache. i dunno about the spacer im sorry i cuddnt be anymore help braces are simple though they make ur gum feel really tight and you will get a headache from it .... which sucks but it isnt bad ... he will give u some wax incase the brace starts to rub against ur cheeks which it probz will never do .......... braces can be annoying though like u have to brush them twice a day for 4 minutes which is stupid ...however when the time comes to take ur braces off ur teeth are so white which is really cool!! lol good luck and soz i cuddnt be anymore help :)

It sounds like the first person who answered has some good advice for you. It's not all as bad as it sounds. I had this myself, and now I have a teenage daughter who has just had this stuff done. It's important to get your teeth in order so that you don't have problems when you get older. It's not just to look pretty! Having teeth that fit together right prevents headaches and teeth grinding and all sorts of problems. So they are pulling a (baby?) tooth, and then putting in a spacer to save the space until an adult tooth comes in? And getting your wisdom teeth out is pretty simple at your age because they haven't grown big roots yet. They probably won't put you to sleep for the surgery because the surgery is short and you'll feel better afterwards if you haven't been put to sleep. They will numb your gums, give you a shot which pinches more than hurts, and then they'll pop your teeth right out. They will probably use a little tiny drill to cut open the bone to expose the teeth and you will hear it but it won't hurt. You might ask the dentist if you can bring your MP3 player or Ipod to listen to during the procedure. For my teenage daughter the whole procedure (3 wisdom teeth all under the bone) took about 15 minutes. After the surgery it's important to keep the cold packs on your cheeks (not up by your ears!) for a couple of days. Sleep sitting up or propped up with pillows to minimize swelling. No rinsing or spitting! If there are stitches you will go back in a week to get the stitches out. I know it all sounds so horrible but I had it done many years ago and to my surprise it wasn't so bad! I thought I was getting lots more sympathy than I deserved! Since then I've assisted with many patients and two of my own kids have had this done. Just relax and know you'll be fine. Stock up before hand on soft things you like to eat (eggs, pudding, yogurt, cottage cheese, hot chocolate, ice cream, mashed potatoes etc.--) just remember do not suck your drinks with a straw. If you are sore afterwards it will most likely be from having your mouth open real wide, so you might be sore back by your "jaw joint", but the tooth extraction sites will not be sore. I don't know why they aren't, but they aren't. You'll be glad you got it all done while you are young!! Good luck and just relax and try to have some fun (puzzles, nintendo, movies, extra books etc. ) and enjoy all the sympathy you get.
