Is it hard to become a dental assistant?

Is it easier to become a dental assistant and then become a dental hygienist or just go straight into...?

    I'm only a dental assistant, but I was told it can be done either way. But it is a little better if you have some kind of dental expience from assisting, before going into dental hygiene. That way you know all the dental terminology, and a lot of other basics. Which you should still learn in hygiene school, but it's always better to be ahead.
