Can you do dental hygiene and then go on to dental school?

I am currently in my third year of college and i just figured out that i want to do dental, Can i go to school for 2 years and get my dental hygiene liscense and then go onto dental school later whenever i decide to? please help what would i need to do? or should i just stay in school and just go straight to dental school after i graduate?

dental hygiene school does not give you any of the prerequisites needed for dental school. If you want to be a dentist, hygiene is a waste of time. Not really. GPA and DAT score makes up basically the entirety of what admissions looks at. Dental schools have 60-100 slots and get over 1000 applicants each. You simply must have a high GPA and DAT score. Some schools give you the average scores of incoming class. You should check them out.
