Do elastics on braces hurt all the time?
-
I've had my braces on now for 9 months - I had a gap between my two front teeth. Yesterday I went for an orthdontist appointment and he put elastics round my teeth to close up the gaps like he always does but he also told me that I have to wear elastics from a hook on the top teeth to a hook on my bottom teeth. At the moment, my teeth really hurt and there is a pain across my cheeks by my nose because it hurts soo much. I've taken some tablets but it still hurts. Is this pain always there when you put on new elastics or is it like the pain when you first get braces and it goes off and you don't notice them within about 10 days? Also, I tried to ask my orthodontist how long I would have to wear them for but he is very awkward and wouldn't tell me. Has anyone been in a similar situation and how long did you have to wear them for if you stuck to what your orthodonstist said and wore them for nearly 24/7?

Answer:
The pain is just your teeth adjusting and when they have moved into position the pain will go away. The pain should go away in 1-3 days. Make sure you wear your elastics as I never did and had to have them on for a longer time. It really depends on your teeth how long you will have the elastics but once you have been wearing them for a couple of days the pain won't be there anymore. Hope it goes well!!

Don't stress honey, the bands effect everyone differently for me it hurt like crazy for the first 2-3 days and then i just got used to them and it began to feel strange when they were not in. I had mine for around 3 months and it wasn't painful at all after those first few days, they're pain to stay on top of but they are very much worth it :) Good luck with the rest of the process

don't despair. remember how sore your mouth was when you first got your braces? bands are the same way.... the pain will probably last about a week, but keep wearing the bands. try taking tylenol to help reduce the pain. Oh and i forgot the best thing... use it as an excuse to eat lots of icecream, smoothies and yogurt.. anything soft and easy to slurp. once your teeth get used to the extra pressure the pain will go away. you may experience some soreness here and there and when your doc gives you stronger bands. Good Luck :) Source(s): braces and bands for 2 years... so i know your pain. be strong. it'll get better soon. i promise.
