How can you become a dental hygienist?

Can i become a dental hygienist?

  • I am 20 years old, and i became a registered dental assistant at the age of 18, meaning i have been a dental assistant for 2 years now. The Texas state board of dental examiners did not requiere for me to have a highschool diploma or GED when i became a registered dental assistant, but to become a dental hygienist i need a highschool diploma or a GED to become registered as a hygienist . Thing is, im from another country, and i finished my highschool studies there. Most employers have accepted my highschool diploma from my country, but universities dont accept it. Is there any way i can become a hygienist ? im ready for a career upgrade and help patients more than what i am doing now... If any one has any feedback it will be greatly appreciated.

  • Answer:

Colleges do accept out of country diplomas. You need to have an official copy sent to the college from the country you got it in. Or simply take a GED test. Since you passed HS it should be easy for you to take and succeed at.
