How long does it take for the swelling to go down after you get your wisdom teeth?
-
Im getting all 4 of my wisdom teeth pulled on August 5, but on August 7th and 8th I have concerts and I want to know how long it takes for the swelling to go down or if I will still be in pain 2 days later. My wisdom teeth don't hurt right now and aren't going to be hard to remove but I have seen people who's swelling stays for days and others who barely have any swelling at all and it goes away almost immediately. I also can't change the appointment, so what are some good ideas to feel better fast and will I be in to much pain or too tired to enjoy the concert. Please help.......mostly people with experience please.

Answer:
I had all 4 out. Took about 2 weeks for the swelling to go away 95%. You will definitely have pain on day 2. If you're just going to watch a concert, take some asprin and you should be fine.

You'll need to be very careful to avoid getting a dry socket. These are very painful and you will have to go back to the doctor if it happens. When the molar is pulled it will leave a hole in your gum. A blood clot will form over the hole. This is essential to healing. It covers the hole up and keeps germs out. However, you only have 1 shot at the blood clot. If this blood clot breaks (and it is fragile for the first couple of days) you will be left with a raw, exposed hole in your mouth that is vulnerable to get severely infected. I know this is not what you want to hear.....but you need to know and ask your doctor about it too. You can not smoke, use a straw, spit hard or do any type of suction motion with your mouth. This will cause the blood clot to break. So, even though you feel fine you should think twice about going to the concert. Unless you plan on just sitting on the sidelines...not singing along and eating and drinking very carefully. I felt fine when I got home...but I only had one out. Everyone has different pain levels,. but everyone will only get one shot at that blood clot. :-( Good Luck!
The usual rule is that pain and swelling max out on the 3rd day. Then the pain and swelling will gradually subside so that in a week to 10 days you will be pretty much back to normal. Of course if you develop infection or a dry socket this will prolong things. Good luck on yours.
