Steps to becoming a dentist? help!?

  • im still in highschool, but ive decided after highschool i want to become a dentist. How do i go about doing this. Do i still got to a 4 year university? i was thinking about sfsu..or do i just go to dental school? Or do i do both? and if i do both, what do i major in?and what classes must i take to be accepted into dental school? please help, thank you

  • Answer:

Most dental schools do not require a bachelor's degree from college. The minimum is 3 years of college so you cannot go straight to dental school from high school. However, getting a bachelor's will improve your chances of admission because of the competition. Look at it this way, if an admissions officer had to choose between someone who has a B.A. and someone who just attended college for 3 years, it is obvious that the one with the BA would win out (unless the 3 year student had a 4.0). You do not need any particular college major to get into dental school, just good grades. The better your grades are in college, the better your chances are in getting in. Most dental students major in the biological sciences but there were some philosophy and sociology majors in my class.
