Sharp pain in my tooth, help?

I still feel pain in the tooth I just had a root canal in HELP!!!?

  • I had a root canal done on my upper right side four teeth in from my front tooth 8 days ago. I was sent home with out any pain killers but I don't like to take them so I didn't bother asking. I was in such severe pain the next night that I had to call the dentists emergency number and they called in a prescription over the phone for me. It is the 8th day and I am still in pain so much pain that I can't bare any pressure on that tooth and I jump about a foot if I accidentally bite down on it. The dentist thought it might have been from the tooth behind it so I had another root canal done today on that one. I am afraid that the doctor may have missed a root in the first tooth he did or there is an infection or something because the pain isn't any better at all. The meds barely dull the pain. I don't know what to do. Has anyone had this happen to them?

I don't think this is normal too, but pain that you experience on biting, is due to injury of periapical tissues. The dentist might took the wrong tooth measurements, and injured some of the surrounding tissue around the root of the tooth. This should usually heal within few days a week at most. This tooth will need a crown anyway, so it is better if he takes it out of occlusion.Just reduce one or two mm of it , so that when you don't bite on it .Take a pain killer, they are antiinflammatory. They will help the tissues heal faster.

this is not normal, especially after 8 days. usually root canals alleviate all pain, just soreness you feel but that goes away in a few days. something is not right. my suggestion is to go back and have him xray it, you may have an infection and need antibiotics. try rinsing with warm salt water.

I would definatly seek a 2nd opinion. You Dr. is unethical doing another root canal on tooth behind previous with no need for it! I tell you what it could be. When they seal the tooth they could have too much material and it has altered your bite which is why it is sensitive to bite! It is possible that he could have not cleaned out all infection and that is causing pain, I have never heard of missing a whole root though. Go get a second opinion before he tells you another tooth needs a root canal or he pulls the one you just had work on!

Yes. I had to have a crown taken off to have a root canal done then they just put a cover over the area. The pain only got worse so went back and he tried the root canal again, but said he could not get it to drain as it should have done. I was then sent over to a maxifacial surgeon who then did the root canal and left a drain tube in my surgical site. Had to return to him several visits but once he put the drain in it the pain left. btw the dentist on my 2nd visit pulled the rest of the crown out. Sounds like you need to ask the first dentist if this could be your problem and ask him to call someone for you.
