How long to wear retainers. I didnt wear them all the time?

My dentist told me to wear my retainers for like 1 year and a half to 2 years. I wore them for like 6 months then took them off put them back on 3 months later. took them off like 1-2 months later. Now I haven't wore them in a month. I plan to put them back on and keep them in my mouth now. My question is how long should I wear them. For another 1.5-2 years. Do the original 6 months that I wore them count for nothing since I took them off?

Did you pay for your orthodontic treatment?? If you did, then follow the dentist's advice!! If you choose not to wear them, you do so at your own risk and you may find yourself having to pay for fresh treatment and that would not be the fault of your dentist!! Sorry..... but the truth hurts!!

I never wear my retainers, & my teeth are just fine. I'm not saying you shouldn't tho, your teeth are always moving so the retainers keep them in place. If they still fit 3 months later and not much has changed then I think your fine. just finish off however much time you have left.
