How long do you wear your retainers?

How long do i have to wear fixed retainers before i get my braces out?

Hi. I just recently got informed that I will be getting fixed retainers on my top and bottom teeth. I was also told that I'll have to still wear my braces for a little while the fixed retainers are in. After a while the orthodontist will take the braces out. I was just wondering how long after I get my fixed retainers, will then I finally get my braces get taken out?

Never had braces myself my childhood friends who did wore their retainers after they were taken off(the braces) so IDK why your ortho would have you wear a retainer while you wore braces How bad are your teeth?
