Does wearing your braces elastics really make a difference?

  • hi guys :) i have two questions. i've had braces for about 5 months now and i only had an overbite and a few spaces. all my spaces are closed and my overbite is pretty much gone. i got elastics about 6 weeks ago and yesterday at my orthodontist visit, my orthodonist said if i wear my elastics all the time it makes a difference in how long i have my braces on for and they should be off early next year. is this true? will wearing them like i'm supposed to [except brushing and eating] really effect how long they're on for? ALSO, are elastics the last stage of having braces? i heard they are! thanks :)

    Hello..Ok, heres the deal....Your teeth get moved in the position you want them to end up in because the braces pull them to that location..When braces are adjusted to put pulling pressure on the teeth the teeth quit moving once they have reached the point where the braces no longer put pulling pressure on them...So..by adding the elastics the teeth have constant pressure on them and continue to move at all times....Good luck and I wish you well. I had braces for 2 in a half years and I wasn't good at wearing my elastics. I started wearing them almost 24/7, (except brushing and eating,) and my teeth started to move SUPER fast! You should wear them more than you do now! It really makes a difference! Also, they are not the last stage for braces but your PRETTY close to the end! Hope this helps! :)

they would not be telling everyone who has braces to wear the elastics if they made no difference, braces are very expensive and some people don't have the opportunity to get them so i think u should really wear them
