How can you get rid of gingivitis?

How do you get rid of gingivitis?

  • My gums are pink and have a line of purple surround my teeth. One of the little "triangle" pieces of gum in between my teeth got ripped and looks inflated. Some of the other "triangle" pieces are giving me a lot of pain. When I brushed my teeth and used Listerine for 30 seconds (as recommended by the back of the bottle), my eyes got red for a few seconds. I am highly suspicious that this is gingivitis. I am 15 if it helps. How do I get rid of it and what can I do to stop the pain?

  • Answer:

brushing twice a day and flossing after you brush. :)

Yes, people of all ages can get gingivitis. Brush with an electric toothbrush or change the way you brush. Brushing with a manual toothbrush using small circles for 2 minutes and daily flossing! In a few weeks, you should see a difference. Have you had your teeth cleaned professionally within the last 6 months? If not, schedule an appointment. Once things start looking better, don't stop - - keep going with your new regimine to continue the health of your gums.

The best thing to do is start with a professional "cleaning". This is where the dentist or dental hygienist removes the tartar from your teeth, including below the gumline. Specific bacteria cause gingivitis, and the bacteria are found in plaque. If you can remove the plaque regularly, then your gums should become more healthy. Brush gently 2x day and floss 1x day. Be sure that the bristles are pointed toward your gums, so that they can sweep away plaque from below the gumline. Better quality electric toothbrushes are great too. Mouthwash has minimal positive effects. If used correctly, Listerine can reduce the bacteria load in the mouth, but because it is alcohol based, it also drys out your oral tissues (which doesn't help). Mouthwash does NOT make up for flossing and brushing daily. In response to "al"... anyone can get gingivitis. Age doesn't matter.

Probably you are too young to have gingivitis, if you brush your teeth and there is no bleeding you are fine if you bleed go to the dentist to remove the plaques..Good Luck
