Can an orthodontist afford this lifestyle?

  • After about 5-8 years of having a private practice, Is this possible? I would be around 32-36 years old. Home: -Luxury condo in a nice development, around $2500-$3000 a month Cars: -Lamborghini, will have a normal cheap car up until this point, cheap car should last me through dental school and first years of private practice. The lamborghini will be an older model and used. -Escalade or Range Rover, this will be the family car as the lamborghini cant be Attractions: - I would like to go on a one week vacation to the beach a year, and go to some nba games, possibly courtside once. Otherwise normal stuff life everyone. And then just add on stuff like food costs, taxes, wifes salary, entertainment, paying back loans from dental school, kid costs.... and so on. Could i live this life as an orthodontist? I just need a small and simple condo and just have my dream car. Own my own practice in the town i live in and how would i be financially?

  • Answer:

Ok the average orthodontist makes around the same as a pharmacist, so it around $100,000. So it is a good pay in this day and age. Yes, you can afford the the Luxury condo and probably a Range Rover or Escalade, but definitely not a Lamborghini. That will probably leave out the rest of the money for food etc. So you can have this life but not with the lambo.

You keep asking this question and if you are choosing your career just based on how much money you can earn then you will never attain your goals and happiness. Have a different goal, like helping people, and treat them right and the money will come.

I doubt it unless you pay the vehicles in cash. Luxury condo payment, assessments, property tax, house and car insurances, maintenance and gas, you'd probably want extended warranties on those cars, bills, etc. I f your wife makes the same you could afford it but you'd still be living a paycheck to paycheck lifestyle.

I doubt it. Not the cars, at least. You'd have to be a plastic surgeon. It depends on the skills you have in your job, where your business is operated, and how many people/type of people go to you.
