How can I get my lips swelling to go away?

Why won't the swelling on my lip go down?

  • my top lip is still a little swollen from my infected tooth. i've been taking pennecillin and flagyl since monday and the swelling went down on my cheek but i can't get it to go away on my lips and it hurts. i've tried using an ice pack but it doesn't work. what else can i try or should i go see my doctor and see if they can tell me why it's still swollen. could it be from something i ate and allergic to and not know it?

  • Answer:

You should stop the ice and use warm salt water rinses every 2 hours. You may need a new and different antibiotic as the bacteria may be resistant to the penicillin. You may need to have an opening drilled into the back of your front tooth to allow for some drainage. Start on the rinses and call your dentist. I wish you good luck.

If I could kiss you, the swelling would go down. ;) I would say go see the doctor, if the kissing doesn't work.

I tend to think you may have a pocket of pus still in your lip that is not resolving. Probably should ask the dentist about it. Has the tooth been extracted or root canal treated yet? If not, that would be the next logical step. Take care.
