How long should pain last after a tooth extraction?

How much pain should I be in after a triple tooth extraction?

• Had 3 teeth removed 5 hours ago. It took 2 dentists an hour, and some of the root was left in for 1 tooth, as it wouldn't budge! I feel bruised and battered, my jaw line is swollen, the tooth next to one that was extracted is bleeding, the corners of my mouth have split from being held open too wide and I feel like I've been kicked in the face by a mule...several times! The local they gave me started to wear off during the second extraction and I was in agony by the third (which went wrong, I nearly swallowed the tooth, they cut the root in half and it still wouldn't budge, so they declared defeat and left it in). I've taken some nurofen, but the pain is getting steadily worse. Is this normal? My jaw has also got the shakes, and I feel sick, but this might just be due to the rather traumatic experience! I'm scared of dentists anyway, and this experience hasn't helped! Before anyone says it, yes I know it's my own fault for avoiding the dentists until things got this bad....but stupidity aside, should I been in this much agony - if so, how long for?! If not...what should I do and who should I go to?

  Dude. You need to change dentists. I had 3 teeth pulled like 2 Fridays ago, and it didn't even hurt that day. They ONLY have you Local? They gave me 9 shots. When I got a tooth pulled before, it was sore a couple of days later. In your case, maybe a week. Man, GET A DIFFERENT DENTIST. Get some Kanka (a brush with numbing stuff in it), and apply it every few minutes (10 or so?) Also, take some Aspirin or something...
