Dealing with orthodontists?
-
Is it possible to bargain for a lower price that is offered by the orthodontist? I am an adult and the insurance will not cover my braces. Thus, I have to pay everything out of my pocket. Should I call them or write a letter to them to get they reduce the original stated quote? Is it always true that their quote is a preset price and is non-negotiable. If so, I can hopefully go to see another orthodontist to get a different price.

Answer:
Just about everything in life is negotiable. Aside from the figures I gave in another of your questions, you will get what you pay for. You're not going to get a BMW for the same price you'd pay for a Toyota Corolla assuming that they're both in comparable conditions, and no extenuating circumstances exist. Most people think of dentistry/orthodontics as a product; they're not. They're services, and the doctor has had to have anywhere from 8 to 15 years of training beyond high school. The doctors who hold both DDS and MD degrees are both dentists AND physicians and usually practice oral/maxillofacial surgery.
