What GCSE's/A Levels Do I Need To Take To Be A Dentist?

  • Im in Year 8, and we need to find out about our future jobs :) 1. Which GCSE's and ALevels do I need to take? 2. Which medical school/University can I go to in UK? 3. What do i need to do to be a Dentist 4. What is Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) ? Thank you :)

    This is the best place to start: http://www.ucas.com/students/coursesearch/ As far as dentistry goes: 1. Minimum of 5 A/A* grades at GCSE, to include English Language, Mathematics and 2 Science subjects, or Science and Additional Science. A level: AAA (Biology AS: A, and A level A in Chemistry and then another science subject preferably Biology) 2. Universities: Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Central Lancashire, Dundee, Glasgow, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle, London, Queens Belfast, 3. You need to do work experience. Can you get a job as a receptionist at your dentist? At least 2 weeks dental work experience, ie shadowing a dentist either in a practice or in a hospital. A hobby or interest outside of dentistry and your school work. A manual dexterity skill, (which you will have to prove on the interview day) so artwork, musical instrument, sewing, craft, fly making for fishing etc. 4. BDS is a Bachelor of Dental Surgery which means you can practice as a dentist within Europe. Hope this helps
