What is the process of braces?

What is the process of removing braces (for teeth)?

  • I'm getting my braces off tomorrow, I have only had them on for a year and I am kind of nervous! What is the process of taking off braces? How do they do it? Does it hurt? The number one question for sure I want answered is, how long does it take to remove them??And what to expect after they are off, does your mouth feel sore, I can handle that, but I am going back to school afterwards tomorrow and I really want to chew a lot of gum, haha, does it hurt to chew? Thanks for the answers!

  • Answer:

First, they take a drill, and a big metal spike... No just messing with you. They just take the wires and band off and pull off the brackets. It's actually relatively quick.

Doesn't hurt at all. They kind of look like pliers, and the just pop the brackets off. You won't be sore, your teeth will feel oddly slick though, because you aren't used to them being smooth.

they just pull them off either as a whole or piece by piece, mine were taken off as a whole, they just popped it off, and they drill off the cement. it doesn't take long, less than an hour. it just feels weird like something is missing, your mouth should not feel sore, just make sure that when they drill off the cement they use water because without it, it stinks like something is burning and it hurts a lot. your mouth doesn't feel sore when they are gone, just be sure to wear your retainers please because teeth do shift everyday, not major shift but they do move. and be careful not to lose your retainers, be mindful where you put them when you eat.
