Badly infected tooth just started bleeding???!!!?
-
Okay, this is a long one...My tooth broke when I was 6weeks pregnant, and no dentist would see me until after I had the baby. I went to the ER and all they would give me is antibiotics. Well, I FINALLY had the baby 3 months ago and the pain started coming back. They gave me IV Antibiotics when I was giving birth. Then they gave me antibiotics again at the hospital to take home. I took all of those, and the pain went away for a little while. Now about 2-3 weeks ago my tooth started hurting really bad again. I made an appointment with the dentist (FINALLY!) and he sat me in the lobby for 4 hours until I finally had to go because my babysitter had to leave! So he gave me antibiotics again & tylenol 3. I took all of the antibiotics with no relief. Got a refill and started taking those, and for the last 4 days the pain has gotten EXTREME. I switched dentist and called over the phone & expained my problem. They said no problem come in. I went in, and after sitting for 2 hours they took me back and told me they could do nothing because it was still infected. WHICH I TOLD THEM OVER THE PHONE! The antibiotics DO NOT WORK! I have been taking Tylenol 3 every like 2-3hours just to EASE the pain. it never takes it away. Anyway, I came home, and went to take a bite of bread and the tooth is so swollen that it is up way higher than the rest. So when I bit down it pushed the tooth down and caused bleeding. What could this be???? Is it a good thing? Could it be pushing the infection out? No other dentist can see me until next week (i have called around) and they recommend continue on the antibiotics and swish out the tooth 6-7 times a day with warm salt water....which I started today. this is the first time it has started bleeding and the pain is unbearable. Any advice?????

Answer:
You either need a root canal or you need to have the tooth removed. I can understand why they wouldn't work on you while pregnant, but you need some work done now. I can't really explain why they just keep giving you antibiotics or making you wait so long to be seen. If you are having swelling and bleeding, that is a problem, not a good thing. I can't believe you have taken so many rounds of antibiotics with no relief. Maybe you need something stronger. Clindamycin is usually recommended over Penicillin for more severe infections.

Did they give you the same antbiotics? You seem to need not only a Stronger antibiotic but a Stronger pain medication...call the dentist and REQUEST a Stronger Antibiotic and Vicodin...There is nothing they can do to your tooth before the infection is cleared up..The tooth bleeding does not mean the infection is being pushed out...it simply means the tooth is So Infected and swollen that it can do nothing else except bleed...Call the Dentist Again!
In all honesty, the whole purpose of antibiotics is to get rid of the infection. Once the infection is gone, then a dentist or oral surgeon can remove the tooth. So what you have been basically doing is putting it off for whatever reason (s). Now, here's a small piece of advice, just because you finish the anti's and the pain goes away, does not mean the pain will not return, and sometimes in a greater form. After completing your next round of anti's, go get the tooth removed before something bad happens, bad as in death UNDERSTAND!
well until you get probably a root canal or them pulled; I would go buy red cross dental pain reliever!! works very well..try not to get it on your gums or lips; because it does burn those area; you place it on the tooth with the cotton balls they provide and also this works too! Put an ice pack on the cheek that is hurting and lay down on it; the cold will numb it; trust me it works. Antibiotics can only help for so long; you need to get to the root of the problem and that's probably to get it pulled!! The pain of the healing will not last as long as what you're going through now!
You can go and demand the tooth be pulled, but take note that if the infection is present, it may be hard to get the area numb. But it sounds like you are going on a vicious cycle. I would go in and get that puppy out. They can put you on antibiotics after it is removed.
