Is it possible to be allergic to a retainer?

6 months without a retainer. Possible to get a new one and shift them back?

  • So I lost my retainer about 6 months back, give or take. My teeth haven't shifted IMMENSELY, but enough to the point where it's noticeable and bugs the hell out of me. I rub my teeth my tongue every day and constantly pick at the one tooth that's protruded most subconsciously without even thinking about it. The front two teeth have inverted a bit so it looks like they stick out more, taking the two next to them with it just a bit. I'm curious as to whether or not if I call my orthodontist, can they use my previous mold and make a new one for me so they will shift back? I know the retainer I had won't fit now, but is it possible to make a new impression and make a new retainer adjusted to shift them back periodically and possibly adjust the retainer throughout as well? Please let me know what you know, this is really beginning to bug me.

  • Answer:

I'm not sure it would make them shift back I actually really doubt it, but you could at least stop them from moving anymore, I would check with your orthodontist. I know what you mean to I've had my braces off for like 6 months and have wore my retainers as I'm supposed to but my teeth have slightly shifted, isn't even noticeable to anyone but myself and it bugs me lol. good luck

I had this problem, you should have gotten a new 1 right after you lost it... They'll most likely make you get braces for a short amount of time and then go back to retainers.

Unless you want new braces, it won't be 100% perfect. You can definitely get a new retainer though. They cost around $300 dollars (for replacements) and as you said, you're teeth changed so you will most likely need new molds. For sure call your orthodontist and find out what You can do to fix your teeth. (After you get a new retainer, i'd suggest even after the orthodontist says you don't have to wear it at nights, to still do it, that's what my dentist recommends for my younger sister and did for me. She recommends that to everyone, that way there is never a need for two different sets of braces

nope

One of my friends actually got a retainer that is stuck in your mouth. You cant feel it, and food doesnt get stuck that much its really been helping her. You should ask your dentist about this.
