Is decalcification common?

Will this help to reduce my decalcification?

  • I got my braces off about 4 years ago. I have white decalcification along my top front 6 teeth, mostly along gum line, due to poor brushing. It honestly didn't bother me/I didn't really notice it that much until recently when my mom pointed it out. They are not cavities, but at my last cleaning, my doctor suggested veneers. Now...this is completely out of the question for me because of the cost/hassle and the fact that I'm not THAT self conscious about my teeth. Instead, I'm aiming to 1, prevent cavities, and 2, reduce the whiteness (if I can) through remineralization. I did a lot of research about this. I am currently using EcoDent tooth powder instead of toothpaste, rinsing with ACT fluoride twice a day, and leaving MI Paste Plus on my teeth overnight. In addition, I avoid refined sugars, carbs like bread and rice, candy, coffee, tea, and soda. Basically I eat vegetables, fruits in moderation, soups, tofu, chicken...healthy stuff. I floss, brush, and use mouthwash after every meal. I also take fish oil and D3 vitamins. These are all the methods I could find about "reversing" decalcification. I am aware that I cannot completely remove the spots, but my hope is I will at least reduce them over the next couple months/year and possibly do some whitening to blend them in once I strengthen them enough. Has anybody had experience doing this or know if it's possible to reduce the decalcification at all?

  • Answer:

Use some Crest White Strips to blend it in. ACT fluoride every day.
