How long do dissolvable stitches last for wisdom teeth?

8 days after wisdom teeth removal, stitch fell out?

  • I had my wisdom teeth out last Tuesday and it is now Wednesday and one of the bottom stitches fell out. I kept picking it with my tongue and it fell out. It didn't bleed but there is a flap of skin and it doesn't look great. They were the "dissolvable" stitches/sutures but none of the other stitches fell out and I've picked at those too. It hurts a little bit and I don't have any access to salt water and the people at the office are never in. What should I do?

  • Answer:

totally normal if they are the disovible kind. same happened to me when i had exposures done.

That sometimes happens with stitches that dissolve. If I were you, I wouldn't worry too much but I would be sure to use mouthwash periodically throughout the day, especially after meals and soft drinks. To be on the safe side, I would still recommend trying to contact the dentist office.

Try not to touch it with your tongue anymore. If it has been 8 days, it shouldn't be bad. Mouths heal quickly :) so just don't mess with it, and it should be healed soon :)
