How to become a dentist?

  • ok so i want to become a dentist,, but i need help on what classes in college and what college i should go to.. im from chicago.. what should i major or minor in?? please if u can tell me the proccess in becoming a dental dental hygienist and a orthodontist.. thanks a lot!

  • Answer:

Majoring in one of the sciences such as biology, chemistry, etc will give you a solid background going into dental school. Most dental students have an 4 year undergraduate degree when they start. After dental school a dentist wanting to become an orthodontist does a residency program usually for 36 months. Getting into dental hygiene school does not require as much undergraduate credit. Most hygiene students fulfill their college classes and then go to hygiene school. They do not have to finish a 4 year undergraduate education.

For dental hygienge school or dental you need to cal each school and see if they have any course requirements and thake them. Dental school is not concern with what you major in only that you completd certain courses and took a minimum of 90 credits in undergrad. Also DAT. The DAT can carry a lot of weight if you get a good score. As for orthodontics, this should be out of the picture for now, you need to become a dentist first before you can even consider orthodontics.
