What is required to be a dentist?

Are dentist required to give you a copy of your x-rays?

  • I know when you switch doctors your able to get a copy of your medical history. What about when you want to switch dentist? Are they required to release a copy of your x-rays to your new dentist? I just moved and found a dentist. He is not very good and I want to find another dentist. My insurance will only cover one set of x-rays. Will the old dentist release those x-rays to the new dentist?

  • Answer:

A dentist is required by law to give you a copy (not the originals) of your x-rays. However they may charge a nominal copying fee to do so.

They will give them to you, but will most likely charge you for them. That's what they did with me anyway.

i live in country where xrays are paid by me, so i know they have to give it to me as im a owner of the xrays, but i think they should give you all your xrays, if you are afraid they would liek to keep it tell them you want to get second opinion and for that you need all yout xrays :) i think that the best would be ask your new dentist :)
