What can cause tooth decay?

Can extensive surgeries or medication cause tooth decay?

  • I had two back surgeries, one lasted 6 hours and the other 8 hours. Then I had a stroke and now take Avinz(time release morphine) and Aggrenox(for the stroke). I haven't had a cavity in 30 years and get my teeth cleaned every 6 months. I went to the dentist yesterday and they found 8 cavities. WHY? I brush regularly and floss and use Listerine every day. I am trying to find an explanation for all the cavities. I did drink a lot more juices(orange, pineapple, etc.) after the surgeries to get more vitamins. Could this be the cause. Any answers would be greatly appreciated. I will have these teeth filled but don't want more cavities next year.
