Why do I have jaw pain on the left side of my jaw?

  • Hey all. Im 20 yrs old and have been using dip tobacco since Jan 2008. I've had mild jaw pain for the last week and it was worse today difficulty chewing etc. Can this be a symptom of oral cancer as I've only been dipping for 1.5 yrs about a can a week? My mom has TMJ is that genetic? Also sometimes I clench my teeth when I lift weights but not often. Anyway I flushed the rest of my dip down the toilet and am gonna try quitting maybe that'll make it go away... Any advice on what the pain may be or how to treat it as well as quitting tips are appreciated. Thanks in advance for advice and sorry for rambling...

Hi Gotta ask, I'm not a doctor by any means .. but you should ask your doctor about the whole "dipping" thing. Anyway, you might be grinding your teeth at night, and clenching your teeth when you work out does not help the matter at all. I would recommend researching for an affordable mouth guard, you can use while working out. I know of a great company for this .. they're called www.totalgard.com .. I hope this helps! - Dave
