Does it hurt to have a permanent retainer removed?

Getting braces removed?

  • when you had your braces on did it seem like they kept on moving your date back to get your braces removed? i was supposed to be getting them off at the end of january but now my next appointment isnt til the 17th of march! and that isnt even to get them taken off.. 1. when you get them removed does it hurt? 2. are they slimy feeling? 3. if so, for how long? 4. does the retainer hurt your gums or is it uncomfortable? 5. is there certain things you can't eat? thanks!

  • Answer:

Well when I got my braces off it didn't hurt at all. After you get your braces off they will make you a retainer custom for your teeth. You will probably receive the retainer(s) on your next visit and then your orthodontist will tell you how long and how frequently you should wear them and proper washing procedures. The retainer will be uncomfortable and make you talk a little funny at first, but after you break them in within a week or two, that speech problem and irritation of wearing a retainer will go away and you should be fine.

okay i just got my braces off a month ago. 1. it really doesnt hurt, you will feel a lot of pressure coming off your teeth. But it really wont hurt 2. your teeth do feel slimy but it is not gross, the will feel big to. 3.they will feel like that for the rest of the day. 4. the retanier will hurt the first time you put it on, your gums have to get used to haveing it on. make sure you wear it or you will have to get brace back on! 5.No, not that i have heard you dont have anything else in your mouth and if you have a removable retainer then no, if you have a built in one i dont know

I got mine off today, and some parts hurt a tiny bit but nothing bad at all! They feel slimy for a few hours... mine feel a little slimy still. I don't know about the retainers yet, I find out tomorrow morning! and... nope you're pretty much free to eat whatever you want after they're off. Yeah, they push it back a few times before they decide you're ready, but the few months is worth it in the long run. I was supposed to get mine off in late summer, and I just got mine off today... Good luck, I hope they let you get them off soon!
