Veneers and crowns, I have to get some dental work done and I'm scared that it is going to hurt like hell.

Anyone ever had crowns or veneers, tell me all about it! Please! Also about how much did they cost you, I know that they are expensive procedures, but they have to get done. Thanks!

Answer:
Veneers for starters are used for the majority of the time in cosmetic dentistry. They are partial coverings of the surface of the facial of the tooth. Most commonly used on the anterior (front teeth). Yes, they are expensive, but the most realistic and appealing. =) Crowns however are complete coverings of the tooth, they take 2mm of enamel off the surface of the tooth, then covering it with a porcealin crown, mostly used in cosmetic/restoritive dentistry. They are more stable. I would definitely go with crowns that have a metal inlay if they are on the molars. But if they are on the front, or are more visible, go for all porcealin. They will not hurt like hell, if done properly. I have 6 crowns on all of my back molars, and they feel and look like my own teeth. = ) If you have anymore questions please let me know. =)

I was in a similar situation, but worse. I was dental phobic and I went through implants and crowns :) The first thing one needs to remember is that, if you are uncomfortable enough with the way your teeth are now, and you are willing to face the process, you most definitely can do it! The second thing is, the biggest part of the pain is whenever your bite is off which - if one knows in advance - is easier to face. Usually, people are concerned with the shots, the pain during the actual procedure and the swelling/pain few days after that. Almost nobody is concerned about when the bite is off, how to prevent it, how to realise that your bite is indeed off (as opposed to other kinds of pain) and the like. Overall, you'll have the biggest part of your pain about your crowns and, the most of it will be about your bite being off. Knowing this, and knowing that the pain due to the bite being off needs to be corrected right away (or it gets way out of hand), you will probably make it with almost no pain.

These are two very different procedures--it just depends on what look you are after. The dentist must file your tooth down to a nub to place a porcelain crown on top, but they look great. These run from approximately $500 to $900 a crown. Veneers give you that "Hollywood" smile and are placed over existing teeth. Depending on the dentist, veneers either look fantastic or horrible. Both cases can run into the thousands, but are worth every penny for a beautiful smile.
