How does a recording studio work?

  • My stepdad set me up for an appointment at 4. But I'm not prepared, it was a surprise for my 16th birthday last week. I have a lot of songs. But only one has a beat plus I only have a keyboard and I don't even know how to play it. Should I bring my laptop with the beat on it? Should I bring the keyboard. What else should I bring? And who else will be in the studio because I would rather have it just be me and my stepdad

  • Answer:

If you don't know how to play the keyboard, don't take it with you. A recording studio had two sections to it - the recording studio itself and the engineer room. The actual studio is sound proofed to keep extraneous noises from be recorded. Depending upon what is being recorded, it could be fairly small or large enough for accompanying instruments. The only people in there are the artist and, if need be, accompanying musicians. The engineering room is where the mixing board, tape equipment and the studio engineer are, and you cannot hear him/them. If you are going to record a song, it should be one that has a beat to it.

you can bring the beat on a cd, they'll be able to play it. if you don't know how to play a keyboard, there is no sense taking it with you. the studio will probably have a better one anyway. there can be any number of people in a session at a studio. an engineer will be there to run the session, possibly with an asst. then there are also interns that may be around depending on the size of the session. all of the sessions i've worked on if there is someone that is nervous about the number of people the studio will have those unwanted people out of the way, or they will block it so you can't see anyone
