Answer:
You can tune a guitar without a tuner but unless you have perfect pitch it will not be in a standard A440 pitch. It will be in tune with itself. Here's what you do. Low to high the notes are E A D G B E. First try to get your low E string about where you want it, then put your finger on the 5th fret of the low E and tune the A string to that note. Do the same thing on the A, to tune the D and the D string to tune the G. When you have the G string tuned put your finger on the 4th fret, tune the B string to that note, Then put your finger on the 5th fret of the B string to tune the high E and there you go. Be careful not to tighten the strings too high as they will have a tendency to break. If they start sounding too high lower the low E a bit and retune. BTW Jasper's answer is wrong, the interval between the G and B is not a perfect 5th which is what the other strings are, in relation to their neighboring string. If you tune it that way your B string is going to be a half step sharp as well as your high E.

There a many ways but the way i do it is like this. On the bass e match it with a piano or a key board of a tuning fork. So if you have any idea if at least one of your strings is tuned then its like this. OK the 5'th fret is the same as the open on the higher string so strum your lowest tuned string on the 5'th fret and shift the tune until it sounds like the higher string when played open. 1:hold your lowest tuned string on 5 2:Now strum the lowest string and next highest string. 3:Strum both strings at the same time. 4:Turn the tune till they sound the same. 5:The higher string you just tuned must sound the same as the next string. 6:Continue this patern all the way down the neck. Just to add some info the strings must be in the order of E A D G B E.
