What does accommodations mean on school report card comments?

My brothers report card in (school ) on the comments in the bottom it says accommodations?

  • he is not in special ed no 504 plan no special assements he passed his reading (assessment taks test he only goes to program called read 180 dats not special ed accomdations means learning disa rite ?

  • Answer:

Wrong. It means supplying help for physical problems. For instance, someone using a wheelchair would need a ramp to get into some buildings. This is the most common accommodation. The space where it says accommodations is for the school to write in what, if any, accommodations a student needs to get into the building and navigate the halls, classrooms and bathrooms. It can also mean a sign language interpreter for the deaf, or a textbook reader for the blind. It has nothing to do with special ed. To be placed in special ed, parents and teachers must agree on the Individualized Education Program (IEP). If your brother had an IEP, you'd know about it. It takes quite a while to get the testing, meetings and placement completed.
