Questions I could ask for an interview for someone in a different culture?

  • This is a description for my essay assignment about intercultural differences. "This is a 500 word, double-spaced and grammatically correct paper that focuses on communicating in the modern world. Select someone from a culture different from your own and INTERVIEW THEM. Then write an essay about their experiences (not yours). During the interview, students will want to ask the interviewee to identify and elaborate on challenges faced due to their cultural “difference”. What difficulties did they face? Hardships? Harassment? What have you learning from the interview about other cultures? I want to see your sources, if you use some, properly cited as per APA or MLA guidelines." I would like to know if there are any questions I should be asking to make this interview the most efficient it can be? I am going to be interviewing a person from Sweden and someone from Ireland. So questions relating to those places would help too. I also want to know what APA and MLA means. No idea what that is suppose to mean for me to do.

    Ask about: Did they find the education system equal, superior, inferior What do they think of our "equality" issues (as in females, different races, gays, etc in the wrokplace -they have a very small % of minorities) What was their biggest shock when they came to the US? What do they think about 9/11 and our wars with the middle east Would they like to become citizens?

APA and MLA are sources that define citation(sources) guidelines: http://webster.commnet.edu/apa/ http://jerz.setonhill.edu/writing/academic1/mla-style-papers/ You should have been taught this in high school. Also, I have to ask, are people from Ireland and Sweden coming from and facing a culture that is very different from the culture that they are faced with now?
