What's it like being a physical therapy assistant?

Whats my first step in becoming a physical therapy assistant?

  • I know obviously is start school, but I want to be 100 % sure that this is what I want to do. Do i go to a Physical Therapy clinic? to ask many questions... or do volunteering? which I called and said I have to be enrolled in school. thanks id really appreciate your answers!

I highly recommend doing some research into what a PTA does and what types of work environments you may be interested in. If you have a school in mind I would call their PTA program deptartment, this is a great place to start to get some answers to your questions. I did something similar when I was looking into becoming a physical therapist. Most schools will be happy to sit down with you. They may also be able to give you some clinics or PTA's they know of that may take you on as a volunteer or for a day or so of job shadowing. You definitely want to get an idea of what this career has to offer before you commit to it. There are many volunteer options avaialble if you look into any local hospitals or clinics. As a PT myself I took on students interested in shadowing in our clinic, it depends on who you contact. Don't give up on contacting clinics or looking for volunteer opportunities. Hope this helps!
