Do transfer credits count towards GPA?

If you transfer from one community college to another, does your course withdraw count effect your GPA?

  • Okay, I know the wording on that question is a bit confusing... so to elaborate, If you went to one community college initially, and had a number of withdrawals there that effected your GPA, if you transfer to another college, do the withdrawals stick with you and still effect your GPA? And if you later transfer to a 4 year college, can they see that? I'm trying to make sure my GPA is up to par for when I transfer to a University this coming fall.

  • Answer:

There are a couple of types of withdrawals, if my memory serves. If you take the course over again, the previous record is wiped clean, at least in the colleges I'm associated with. Your transcript is a record of what you did to satisfy their course requirements. So if you can cover OVER it . by retaking the class .. they consider that you satisfied requirements, and don't penalize you.
