Where would I have to go to obtain a basic food hygiene certificate?

Can I get a Food Hygiene Certificate online? UK?

• Hi I applied for a job in a kitchen last week because I have a lot of experience in catering in fast food restaurants, cafe's and restaurants throughout my career. I was told that I needed a Food Hygiene Certificate to start work however if I could get one soon, I would be offered a job with them. I have spoken to different colleges and all they can offer me is to put my name on a list and they will contact me when enough people are listed to do the course which lasts one day. But...today someone recommended I look online for the course and see if I can get the certificate from the internet. I have found a couple of good sites that seem to do it, for about £25-£35.00's which is perfect because as soon as you pass, they send it out to you the next working day so I would in other words....have a job! Does anyone know however if this is actually real and safe or a con? Because completing a course and gaining a qualification on the internet just sounds a bit...unusual. Maybe because Ive never really heard of the concept before. Does anyone know if its above board? Also has anyone done the Food Hygiene Course online before?   i don't actually know the correct answer to this BUT, i think it would be ridiculous if you could do the test online considering 9/10 people would just google the answer! the course is easy and most people pass anyway, just do the course in person, not online.
