Did anyone get a TESOL certificate via on-line? Would you recommend it?

Hi. I was interested in obtaining TESOL certificate, either via online or school. I just started looking into these options and considering my choices so I have a lot of questions. :) I currently live in NY, and have my own translation/consulting business, but I have been tutoring elementary children through my church and local community centers (mainly teaching English to immigrant children) and that is why I am considering to get TESOL certificate to further my knowledge and enhance my skill of teaching. I did attend college for two years but due to my family circumstances, I did not complete the school so I don't have a degree. Now that I am in my late 30's and have been out of school for long, instead of going back to get my Bachelors or Master's degree, I just wanted to simply get a certificate. I was looking into this training center called ITTT (International TEFL & TESOL training) in NY city, and in checking out tuition fees, I could not help but wonder why is there such big difference in pricing? The 120-hr online courses I am interested in costs $495, when the classroom courses cost $1390. I know we will benefit and perhaps get to learn more with classroom settings, but why such diference? So if there is anyone who has had an experience taking these TESOL certificate courses via on-line, and obtained one, would you kindly share your experience with me? Did it help you and would you recommend it? Were you able to find any teaching job with the certificate? Thank you to whoever will answer my question here. Thank you!

Well we're one of the major online TESL providers today. The reason our courses are much more competitively priced is simply down to overheads - use of offices, classrooms, etc. We have freelance tutors all over the world working with our student-teachers so it does make a huge difference compared to a classroom price. Our 120 hr course is 265 USD and is very well regarded; if you go onto our website you'll see our forums where our current and former students discuss the course, finding work, working after graduating and so on.
The best company to go with for online certification is American TESOL Institute. The Advanced TESOL online is recommended by ACE CREDIT, and also includes a 20 hour online teaching internship (optional). You can also pursue a combination of online and in-class TESOL study in NYC.
