Jobs as child and youth worker?

  • Career possibility for a child and youth worker? The college where i live offers a three year advanced diploma for child and youth worker. Im just wondering if its a good Field to get into. The website describes the career opportunities as: Graduates are prepared to work in an ever increasing range of settings that promote optimal development of children, youth and their families. As part of an inter-disciplinary team, child and youth workers are front-line professionals in residential care facilities, mental health treatment centres, shelters, school programs, therapeutic foster care environments, community-based services/resource centres and youth criminal justice services I know that is pretty specific but im wondering if anyone can elaborate on that with more specific jobs that could be attained with only a diploma. Also, what is the salary like for these types of jobs? I know its more important to love what you do for a living, but i want to like what i do and make enough money to support a future family.. There is also a university which grants credit for two years of their four year Bachelor of Child and Youth Care Degree program, but im not really interested in that. So i guess my questions are : What jobs could i get with this course? What are the salaries like? My other options are to find an apprentiship (trades) or become a cop. Thanks
