Do i need a ged to take and become a cna?

• i am 33 with three girls. i was working as a direct support person for a home for mentally handicapped adults. its the same work as a cna just don't do vitals, which we did have to learn in the classes. i loved doing it but due to the hours i could not stay there anymore. i am wanting to get my cna certificate. i know i can pass it, i passed the dsp classes with no problem and worked closely with the nurse at my previouse job. everyone i worked with told me i had it in me to become a cna. i don't have a ged, i've worked too much to go back and get it. i am not working at the moment and have my income tax coming and its the only time of the year i have extra money, i know i can't get any grant or financial aid. so i want to pay whatever it cost on my own to become a cna.

  Check with your state Board of Nursing or the State Registry of Nursing Assistants, there should be a FAQ section on the page that lists the minimum requirements. Also, there is always an email address and telephone number so you can check with them on the licensing/registration/certificating requirements of your state. As for gaining acceptance to a CNA certificate program, each program has different requirements for admissions... I'd recommend checking with them first. Also, some nursing homes have CNA training programs on site.
