How can an individual get sponsorship for attending a conference?

If I am attending the HOBY conference, how do i get invited to the WLC?

• Hi, I will be attending the HOBY Youth Leadership Conference at the University of Texas and I was reading about the WLC program that could follow the HOBY seminar. Apparently only a certain number of kids are accepted from each state. I was wondering how you became one of those selected for the second program and what are the requirements? I also read from another question on this website that they announced who was invited to go to the WLC program at the end of the HOBY seminar is that true? All answers are appreciated. Oh and I would also really enjoy hearing other's experiences from either conference. Thank You :]

  Hello! Actually, if you go to www.hoby.org today, they answer some of the logistical questions (such as how to apply), but are missing something that's crucial to what you're asking. I'm not on the national board, but do work in the Minnesota program, so have some familiarity with this. Each state is allocated a certain number of slots - after these are taken, you may not be able to get in unless another state doesn't use all of their spots. A state HOBY organization can reserve two slots for students that are selected at the state conference, although we do not do this in Minnesota. Despite that, we do have a number of youth attend the WLC each year. As for the experience, I still remember when I attended - in 1983! Texas has a world-class program, so I know it will change your life. Enjoy it!
