How can you improve your sense of direction?
-
I'm considered by most to be fairly intelligent (in regards to academics) but I'm notoriously bad with directions. Is there any way to improve this? I often get lost and have a hard time retracing my own trail (particularly in driving). I'm a History major and many consider me to have an excellent memory, but not when it comes to directions. Thanks!

Answer:
Learning the key geographical features in your area may help, as well as things like sun position. I would also suggest developing a conscious process for recounting your path. It might also help to study maps of your area, including aerial ones. Once you understand a place, it's easier to figure out where you are. Of course, they invented GPS, Tom-Tom and Compasses for a reason, so don't be afraid to use those tools.
