What courses do I have to take to be a nurse?

I would like to be a nurse, but the only education I have right now is my GED. What courses do I need to take?

  • What courses do I need to take before I start on any of the courses for an RN? Before the H&P and what not.

  • Answer:

You have at least 2 options in most states: 1) Become an LPN -- less than 1 year -- at a local BOCES or Community College. Then continue to step 2. By the way, Excelsior only accepts LPN's into their RN program. 2) Apply immediately to 2 year (Associate) program or 4 year (Bachelor's) program to help complete your RN. Note schools only give you the privilege to take the LPN or RN board exam which is sponsored by each state. Not every state accepts all college degrees. Check with the college first.
