Question about out-of state tuition?

In/Out of state tuition question at a community college..Please help..?

  • I moved to FL 2 months ago from VA..I had no idea about the out of state tuition thing :( I did not move here to go to school but have decided I want to get my associates in OTA here in Daytona at the local community college. I'm confused on how to get in state. I've changed my drivers license and made FL my permant address. I pay rent and bills here. My car is NOT yet registered in FL. Does that matter or will the rent and DL be enough after my year of residency is up? Also I work full time but my company is based out of VA (I work from home and have for 4 years) Do I have to work full time in FL to qualify for in state? Also what about taking online classes from a VA college, can I do that? My sister did but when I called a VA community college, they said no that I'm considered a FL resident as soon as I move to FL. My sister got in state in VA while living in NC because she had lived in NC less than 6 months. Why are they telling me different even though it was the same school she went to?? Also what if I take a few classes here in FL on out of state tuition. Will it automatically switch to in state once my year is up or will I be doomed paying out of state forever just because I took a few classes out of state? I appreciate any help, Thank you

  • Answer:

You did not give us your age. If you are over 24 you can become a resident , but you really need to register your car in Florida. If you are under 24, you are a resident of the state in which your parents live
