Should I drop out of HighSchool due to my illnesses and get my GED? Long, but PLEASE take the time to read :(?

I'm 16 years old and I'm suppose to be a Junior in High School but I'm currently a Sophomore. My first Freshman year I was constantly absent due to multiple viruses/illnesses, 2 surgeries, had the Flu twice in one Winter, some doctors were misdiagnosing me with Fibromyalgia because of how badly my bones and joints would hurt from how weak I was (I lost 25lbs during this time), I was in an out of the hospital because the August before Freshman year started, I started getting massive migraines that'd last up for days & then up to weeks (I later got diagnosed with Chronic Migraines), I suffer from Irritable Bowel Syndrome aswell (it tends to run in my family and I go to my Gastrointerologist regularly) I got told by a Physical Therapist I had 2 discs in my spine that were misaligned, AND ontop of all of that, I was born with a Class III Malocclusion and have spent literally my entire life with different Dentists/Orthodontists trying to fix it. Basically what that is a misalignment of my teeth to the point where I'm not able to chew food correctly. Instead of having an overbite, or an under-bite, my mouth is completely open in the front when I bite down (2 teeth MAX touching in the back) and without the surgery, my Orthognathic Surgeon told me there's a good possibility I'll lose my teeth by the time I'm in my 30's. So as soon as I got braces, which was literally 2 weeks before my Freshman Year started, that's when my teeth started moving. But once my teeth started moving? So did my jaw, and once that happened, that's when my migraines became impossible to deal with to the point where I was literally in the hospital at least 1-2 times every 2 weeks. So due to my absences I was taken to court (I won my case because of all the medical documentation I had) but unfortunately had to stay back. I started my Freshman year again with a 504 Plan and didn't do so bad the entire school year, but of course, I was still absent more than any other kid.. As usual /: But now that I've started my Sophomore year, things weren't so bad. I ended up getting C.Difficile during the end of Trimester 1 and had to struggle for 4 weeks trying to catch up on homework, including finals, while I was doing all my other homework we were starting in Trimester 2 (mind you, these are completely different classes as well). So now that I'm coming towards the end of Trimester 2, my migraines have come back hard. I've tried to deal with them in school, along with the pain I get from my neck/spine problem, and it's not working out for me. I'm struggling all the time to get most of my homework done, let alone understand what I'm actually doing. I spend hours staying after school with teachers & hours staying home doing homework. I even skip lunch to sit in the library during school, in case I didn't finish it the night before :( Which is causing me to be even more sick because I'm stressed literally around the clock. I'm scheduled to have surgery to fix my Malocclusion this summer but my Principal is asking for me to possibly do some of my classes that I might fail this Trimester in Summer School. But it'd be impossible for me to do considering my circumstances and how I've waited my entire life to fix this issue, so I'm not always suffering. But without Summer School, my ultimatum is either staying back ANOTHER year, trying my hardest to find money to pay for online cyber schooling, or dropping out. My Principal is refusing to help with anything else and just sent me a letter in the mail saying she's not giving me my 10 credits for the Trimester due to my absences. So.. Basically I don't even have enough to go on & be a Junior. So finally, my question is!! - How hard is getting your GED? - Would I still be able to get a decent paying job while having one and be able to attend college for more than 4 years? - Would I be paying the same amount of money for college while having a GED, rather than if I had a High School Diploma? (stupid question, but I know you can get scholarships in high school unlike when you drop out) - Is life going to be any harder for me in the long run? - Considering I'm only a sophomore is it going to be harder for me to learn the information I need to if I take GED courses to be able to pass the test? If anybody knows ANY information about this, please help! It'd be much appreciated! & If you've taken time out of your day just to read this, thank you so much!

Answer:
your 504 plan should have included home instruction to make up for the absences.. you may want to upgrade to an IEP special education)...an IEP can provide you home instruction or even online classes paid for through your school district..your classification would be Other Health Impaired. The law is IDEA... you can take less classes per year and stay in school through age 21..but at this point you may only have 1 or 2 extra years. YOUR SCHOOL IS LYING ABOUT THE IEP....you are failing by not getting the credits---therefore you are not doing too good to be eligible for an IEP...an IEP student can be in Honors and even AP classes... but the 504 should be making provisions to deal with the absences---such as home instruction, less classes, etc... google PARENTAL RIGHTS IN SPECIAL EDUCATION you can appeal to have an IEP

If you find high school hard, getting a GED will be hard. GEDs are becoming much more acceptable in the workplace, and especially in colleges. Having a GED can help you get as good a job as a diploma can. Colleges will not charge you more money, but it will be a lot harder to get scholarships. If you work hard with a GED, you will do just as well as working hard with a diploma. If you are smart and will work hard at studying, getting a GED will not be a difficult task. Do not just take the word of strangers like myself on Y!A, though; talk to your school's counselor, your parents, and local college advisers.
